    The Office of Chief Electoral Officer, Maharashtra is an office functioning under the Election Commission of India. The main responsibility of this office is to ensure free and fair Parliamentary and Legislative elections in Maharashtra. In order to make these elections further all inclusive, peaceful and more participatory, the Election Commission of India has launched an ambitious Programme called SVEEP (Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation) Programme since 2009.Under this program, efforts are being made to achieve three objectives of voter registration, increasing the percentage of voters, and strengthening democracy through sustainable initiatives. 
    Highlights of CEO Maharashtra SVEEP 2021-22 : 
    1. Establishment of Think Tank 
    2. Circular issued regarding constitution of Electoral Literacy Clubs in schools and colleges
    3. Special Initiatives taken for the registration of Transgenders and Female Sex Worker voters
    4. Social Media Activation across the state. 
    5. Democracy Talks
    6. State level Competitions
    7. Strengthening of Electoral Literacy Clubs
    8. Publication of First Book named as 'Lokshahi Samjun Ghetana / Understanding Democracy'
    9. National Voters Day Celebration
    10. Participation in All India Marathi Literary Conventions

SVEEPSystematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) is a programme of multi interventions through different modes and media designed to educate citizens, electors and voters about the electoral process in order to increase their awareness and participation in the electoral processes. SVEEP is designed according to the socio-economic, cultural and demographic profile of the state as well as the history of electoral participation in previous rounds of elections and learning thereof.
