Manipur: Did You Know Campaign for General Election to 17th Lok Sabha Election

Manipur Governor moves her vote to Manipur. CEO Manipur Sh P.K. Singh handed over the EPIC to Governor in presence of Sh N Praveen Singh, DC/DEO Imphal West.

In a clear instance of leading by example, Governor of Manipur Dr. Najma Heptulla has moved her voting constituency to Imphal, her present place of residence. She was earlier enrolled in New Delhi. She is now enrolled in the Sagolband Assemb ly Constituency. Dr. Heptulla will now cast her vote at 11/34 Old Lambulane (B) polling station. Speaking about her move, the Governor of Manipur said, “It is only natural that I move my constituency since Imphal has been my place of residence for some years now. Moreover, I identify with the place as I continue to learn more and more about the state and its people. I am proud to say that I am ready to vote in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Imphal.”

The Governor’s move can be considered a good sign of being a responsible citizen as it is the responsibility of a citizen to move her vote and not waste it when relocated to a new place. In India millions of people constantly relocate to other parts of their state or the country on account of job, business, study, marriage or other reasons.

The Election Commission of India has even launched a national campaign recently titled “It’s so easy” to encourage people to move their vote to their present place of residence. Incidentally the campaign was conceptualized and designed by CEO Manipur, as entrusted by the Election Commission of India.

INTRODUCTION

The Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur organized a Street Art Competition as a part of its SVEEP (Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation) campaign on 22 September 2018.

The competition on the theme of “Democracy Rocks” was the first ever street art competition in the state and was held on the outer wall of the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, opposite Nagaram, Imphal.

The competition was aimed at creating awareness about the necessity to participate in the democratic process of elections at the larger context while also highlighting the on-going Special Summary Revision to encourage young prospective voters to enroll before 31 October 2018 for upcoming elections.

A SVEEP Campaign was conducted at the Old Aerodrome, Kakching on 9th September, 2018 with SDO-Kakching/ERO, 36-Wabgai & 37-Kakching under District Election Officer, Thoubal being a part of SVEEP Campaign in connection with Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls, 2019 with respect to 01-01-2019 as the qualifying date. The Campaign was organized seeing the gathering of World War II Memorial/Run. Above 1000 visitors including more than 400 youths (Cultural Dance Groups, Martial Arts Groups, Hr. Sec and College student were visited the Election Stall opened at the specific ground. Forms, T-shirts, Caps and sweets were distributed during the awareness campaign.

A Democracy March on the theme ‘We are registered, Are you?’ was held on 20.09.2018. The District Election Officer flagged-off the ‘Democracy March’ at 11.30 A.M. from Thoubal Mela Ground to Mini Secretariat, DC Office Complex, Thoubal. All EROs of Thoubal & Kakching Districts and around 650 youths from different Colleges/Hr. Secondary Schools, Clubs/Organizations, NYK Volunteers, Media Persons and Election Machineries were present during the rally. The reception of the participants of the March/rally was held at the Mini Secretariat, DC Office Complex, Thoubal followed by a brief speech on Electoral roll Revision by District Election Officer, Thoubal and a speech on Enrolment of youth on Election under SVEEP programme by Addl. Deputy Commissioner/ERO, 33 & 34 ACs.

A Special Public Awareness and Education Programme for the person with Disability (PwD) was held today, the 26th September, 2018 at 2.00 P.M. at the Office of the Regional Institute of Handicapped Persons (RIHP), Yairipok Bamon Leikai, under 32-Wangkhem AC. Shri L. Radhakanta Singh, ADC/Thoubal, Shri M. Rajendra Singh, President RIHP and Miss Binita Ngangbam, SDO-Thoubal/ERO 32 & 35 ACs grace the function as Chief Guest President and Guest of Honour respectively. Importances on registering PwDs vide. ECI Instructions and awareness on registration process in District Electoral Rolls was briefly sanitized by the ERO during her speech. ADM-Thoubal speaks the importance of PwDs voters/electors and their roles in the coming LS Election, 2019. He further states that this Office will take new more initiatives for the PwDs to enroll for any left out. Nodal Officer (PwD), Thoubal speaks the facilities given by the Govt. of being a PwD and further requested to come forward for registration as a voter.
